I do renovations of old homes and don't come across bolts very often so I don't like to keep a whole socket set cluttering up my tool bag or truck. However, I do come across them occasionally and have found this "universal" socket wrench to handle virtually every situation in one handy little tool that has earned a spot in my tool bag.

Removing a wrought iron railing the other day, one of my carpenters asked if I had a socket set to remove the bolts holding the railing to the brick, and I handed him this. He looked at it suspiciously but tried using it and now he wants one. Even though the bolts had been painted over several times, the Gator Grip removed them with no problem, and probably a regular socket would not have fit.

The only time it didn't work for me was when I needed to tighten some concrete anchors and the bolt extended through the nut further every time we tightened it. Eventually the bolt stuck out far enough that that Gator Grip could no longer touch the nut. However, a standard socket wouldn't have worked anyways, it ended up requiring a deep well socket so this was a fairly specialized application.

Is it the perfect tool? No, and if I knew I was going to be doing something that required a lot of bolt tightening or removing, I'd probably plan ahead and bring a regular socket set. However, it is a great tool to keep around for those unexpected situations, and it will handle the majority of those situations very well.

We've already used in twice for two 700 mile road trips and it freed up a ton of room in the vehicle so we can comfortably fit all our kids. It holds 4 medium size suit cases nicely. Thanks.

Anybody who has worked on a engine knows that they need a oil filter wrench if they want to remove the oil filter off of the engine. I am sure we have all seen those standard oil filter wrenches where you slip them onto the oil filter and pull that lever which tightens it against the filter.

Thats all well and great if your oil wrench is the proper sise for the filter you are trying to remove cause if its not, your out of luck there buddy. I have one of those big rig style oil wrenches and its too big to fit onto 2 inch oil filters and because of that lever, you can't get them up into tight spaces to work them.

So I went looking for an oil filter wrench which would work great for small filters, hence, small engine work. Thats when I found the 3-Jaw universal wrench being sold at Amazon.com. I was a bit worried when I bought this because I saw how small it was in the Amazon image, thought it might not be strong enough.

Oh how I was wrong, first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was how heavy it was, deffinetly meant for the most tightest of filters. There was a guy at Amazon who said that he went to a hardware outlet to purchase a adaptor because he did not have a 1/2 drive rachet. Oh how I feel bad for him, he waisted his time, essentally he bought an adaptor to adapt from the adaptor.

Hence it came with an adaptor and so if he just pulled the adaptor out, he would have noticed it has a built in 3/8 drive for rachets as well. Oops :(


The jaw is fully adjustable from 2 and 1/2 inches all the way up to 4 inches so thats why its universal. All you have to do is put the jaws onto an oil filter, attach your rachet/socket wrench and begin loosening the filter.

The only thing I don't like about this design is that you must keep holding it, if you let off pressure even for a second, the jaws will slip off the filter. Its not bad however once you get used to it and it works well. You tighten on the filter the same way, just switch your rachet direction switch.

I would have liked to have seen rubber going down the 3 jaws as to protect the filter from getting scratched. If your not worried about cosmetics, then this won't matter to you. But if you have a race car for car shows, you may not want to scratch up your oil filter using this wrench which has no rubber on the jaws.

However, this wrench design has a huge advantage over standard filter wrenches in that you hook onto it from the middle of the wrench. What this means is, you have a hard to reach oil filter in that Honda? No problem, stick on a few extensions, then your rachet, stick it up there and wala, instant access!

All in all I think this is a great oil filter wrench. But it would have been nice to have a lock mechanism on the wrench to keep it from slipping off the filter if you let off pressure. And it would have been nice to have had rubber going up and down the jaws as to keep the filters from getting scratched.

This product is well put together. for a guy with multiple socket sets this traveler is great

As a former firefighter I recommend the Life Hammer as an essential piece of safety gear that should be a fixture in every aircraft, boat and vehicle. At 6 ounces it is light weight and easy to use. Thankfully, later models of the Life Hammer are now mounted with a seat belt cutting blade as well as the standard steel, glass breaking ballpoint. The florescent handle easily helps in identification in dark situations and serves as a marker and visual locating device. Beware of imitations.

This is the second of these tool belts my husband has owned, and he is very happy with it. It lasts forever, and is the perfect size for the tools he needs to carry with him at work.

K&N Oil Filter HP-1010

Ordered enough so I would have two for each car (already had one). 2 of 3 with this order had a single disc pocket not stitched in on one side. Not worth the hassle to return, and they should be good for a couple years--maybe, with care.

I purchased this and a 43 piece at Lowe's...

Cons:
This one has thin and springy metal that doesn't stay put and bends easily.
It doesn't have black plastic pieces that lock it into place.
Poor variety of pieces (mostly tiny hooks)... no bin no jar..etc.
The cheap pieces also don't have protective plastic covers....

The 43 piece set I bought at Lowe's actually had more useful pieces. Better metal and protective plastic over the tips of sharp metal hooks...

Save yourself the hassle and buy a better set...

This Black & Decker polisher replaces the previous B&D polisher I owned for 15 years. I've done 3 cars so far and it works great. The pad is firm but still allows access to tight areas. I also like the extra handle. The power button can be a little clumsy but overall, I highly recommend it.
